This project retells stories from Chinese Classics in an easy-to-understand comic book form, each panel a photo of a scene made out of toy blocks. The captions for each story are bilingual, provided in English and Classical Chinese.
The artist behind Brickfucius, Christoph Murphy, is an award-winning British artist living in Hong Kong. He holds a degree from the University of Cambridge in Modern and Classical Chinese and spent a year studying in Peking University.
In the summer of 2022, he hosted an exhibition in the Cattle Depot Artist Village in Hong Kong, where he was interviewed by the Sing Tao Daily, Hong Kong's oldest Chinese-language newspaper. In 2021, he received a Living Influencer Award from Hong Kong Living Magazine. He has previously been interviewed by Transheart Café, a Taiwanese podcast, and collaborated with Hong Kong-based calligraphers, including Arthur Wong (黃憬珩) and Emily Huang (得閒寫字).
